Introduction
Over 70% of Venezuela’s rural population lives in poverty and are first to suffer from rising unemployment, low wages and inflation.
One of the root causes of rural poverty in Venezuela is lack of access to basic services such as education; moreover, scarcities of adequate books in schools and no available public libraries frustrate the rural citizen’s hope for any personal development that one would need to be able to advance toward a better life.
FUNDVEC library projects target this disparity as they assist disadvantaged rural families in Venezuela with access to age-appropriate, quality books that provide essential knowledge, foster critical thinking and encourage lifelong learning.
