The sixth-grade students, their teachers and the director from Caserío El Páramo’s public school teamed up with Biblioteca Pública El Páramo for a special clean-up on a baking-hot day last November (2007).
Over 35 large bags of litter and trash were picked up along a 3-mile stretch of roadside just outside the town, and passersby honked horns and waved encouragement at the team of concerned young citizens. One taxi driver even brought two large bottles of ice-cold soda for the thirsty clean-up crew, and many learned about the effects of litter from the good example set by the students that day.
Children help each other carry a bag stuffed full of litter that they picked up from the roadside near Caserío El Páramo.
Schoolchildren show the results of their labor to clean up their community.
Biblioteca Pública El Páramo offers books on environmental education and is also working with El Páramo Public School on an Environmental Corner for the library.
